Why Should I Continue Band In High School?

1. Continuing to take band helps with the transition to high school. Students will walk into school on the "first day" with thirty new friends who know their way around!

2. Time and money have already been invested in starting to learn the art of music. In a high school environment it is truly amazing what you can accomplish. There are many college scholarhips available to musicians!

3. Although you may not have a lunch/study block the day you have band class, usually you will be given time to eat at the beginning or the end of class. (Most band students actually choose not to sign up for a lunch so they can eat with band students later in the day or in class).

4. Band allows you to have an opportunity to compose music of your very own, march in a parade with people coming out just to see you, and perform for cheering crowds at concerts, football games, and competitions.

5. If you thought middle school band was fun, you're in for a treat because high school band is even better. In all the ensembles, you get to challenge yourself with harder and more interesting music.

6. Studies have shown that learning to play an instrument enhances a student's academic performance in math, language arts, foreign language and other academic areas. Even standardized test scores such as the SAT are higher among musicians.
