Director of Bands
Mr. Lane is a 2001 graduate of East Carolina University with a degree in Music Education. He is entering his eighth year as a band director and third year at Frank W. Cox High School. Since arriving to Cox High School, the band has received superior ratings at competitions throughout the commonwealth of Virginia in both concert and marching as well as having a jazz and percussion ensemble that performed at various public events and local concerts. During the 2007-2008 school year the Cox Band received the distinction of being a Virginia Honor Band for only the fifth time in the school's history as well as earning a bronze level finalist award at the Tournament of Bands Atlantic Coast Championships in Dover, Delaware. Before coming to Cox, Mr. Lane spent one year at Kellam High School where they were also named a Virginia Honor Band. Prior to coming to Virginia Beach, Mr. Lane taught in the North Carolina Public School system for four years. He has performed with the DCI World finalist Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps in 1995 and 1996 as well as the Independent World Class percussion ensemble Carolina Thunder, both from Charolotte, NC. While at East Carolina, Mr. Lane performed with the ECU Symphony Orchestra, the ECU Wind Ensemble, the Symphonic Band, the Concert Band, the Percussion Players, the ECU Steel Orchestra, and the ECU Percussion Ensemble. He has performed concerts in Prague, Czech Republic, and Vienna, Austria, and was a member of the ECU Percussion Ensemble featured in a special concert at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention. He is currently a member of the Tidewater Winds Percussion Section. His teachers have included Dr. Scott Carter, Mark Ford, Harold Jones, Christopher Deane, and Dr. Jonathan Wacker. He is a member of the Music Educators National Conference, Virginia Music Educators Association, Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association, Percussive Arts Society, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia professional music fraternity. Woodwind Instructor
Gina Lane is going into her second year as the Woodwind Instructor for the Cox Marching Falcons. During her first year, the woodwinds won first place at the TOB Chapter 12 Championships. In addition to working with the Marching Band, Gina frequently works with the woodwind sections of the Wind Ensemble & Symphonic Bands. Gina is a clarinet/bass clarinet player with a Bachelors in Music Education from East Carolina University. While at East Carolina Gina performed in many ensembles including the ECU Marching Pirates, The ECU Symphonic Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra. Gina taught 4th-8th grade band for six years in the Northern Virginia area and also was a music director for a summer theatre program prior to moving to the Virginia Beach area. She has also taught privately. Gina currently is in her third year of teaching elementary general music, chorus, and strings at Camp Allen Elementary School in Norfolk. She has also performed bass clarinet with the Tidewater Winds for two years. Gina is very excited to be returning to Cox as the Woodwind Instructor and loves working with the woodwinds, as well as all the members of the band. She knows this year is going to be fantastic! Visual Designer/Instructor
Ricco Robinson was born and raised here in the Hampton Roads area. He attended Bayside High School from the years of 1992 - 1995. During high school Ricco was in the band as a tuba player all four years. During his senior year he was appointed brass section leader. Ricco continued his playing with the Tarheel Sun Drum and Bugle Corps from 1997 - 1999. With his age-out year being 1999. For the 1999 summer tour he was the Horn line captain for the corps. Ricco has been a staff member for various schools since 1997. He was the visual tech at First Colonial HS in Va Beach, VA from 1997- 98. He Became the Visual Coordinator/ Drill Writer in 1999-2004. Ricco also taught at Landstown and Kellam HS as their Visual Instructor. He is now currently the Visual Caption Head/ Consultant at Cox High School in Va Beach where he has been since 2006. Guard Instructor
Rick Petersimes is going into his third year of working with the Cox Marching Falcons. Rick was a member of the Madison Scouts of Drum Corps International in the years 1984-85 and marched with the Southern Nights Senior Corps in 1986-88. Rick has been teaching with local Marching Bands for over 20 years. He has worked with Bayside High School, Salem High School, and Indian River High School. At Indian River, Rick was the guard instructor and drill writer. In addition to teaching at these schools Rick also worked with the Cox Marching Band back in 1986-87! Percussion Instructor
Jason Stanley has been teaching percussion in the city of Virginia Beach for four years and continues to strive for excellence out of every one of his students. He was percussion instructor for Kellam High School from 2005-2006 and has been with Cox since 2007. He is graduating in the spring from Old Dominion University with a Bachelors Degree in Music Education with an emphasis in percussion. Brass Instructor
Darius Marshall is a 2006 graduate of Kellam High School. Darius has marched a total of 9 years. While at Kellam, Darius played the tuba and was an all district band participant where he qualified for an all state band audition. Upon graduation from Kellam he attended Norfolk State University for 2 years majoring in Music Education. While at Norfolk State University he was one of the tuba section leaders of the Spartan Legion Marching Band. Darius has spent his summers as a brass instructor with a band in the Richmond area and has now transferred to Old Dominion University to complete his Music Education degree.
